Welcome to the CIHR Strategic
Training Program in Tobacco Research (CIHR STPTR) that provides exceptional opportunities for graduate
students and post-doctoral fellows.
The distinctive focus of the CIHR Strategic
Training Program in Tobacco Research is on transdisciplinary training, provided by
outstanding Mentors who span a broad range of disciplines and departments of universities: The primary goal is to equip the next generation of
scientific leaders with the knowledge, skills and experiences that will enhance
their ability to conduct tobacco research that will have a positive impact on
the health of the population - in The program currently has four elements: (a) a
video course linking CIHR Strategic Training Fellows in Tobacco Research and
mentors across participating universities; (b) an annual meeting; (c) stipend
awards that free CIHR Strategic Training Fellows in Tobacco Research to
concentrate on research, and (d) personal, cross-disciplinary research
mentoring. Transdisciplinary training is at the heart of the program. All students receiving stipend
awards must have (a) at least one supervisor (or committee member) who is a
program How to get involved.
Graduate students or post-doctoral fellows at any of the three
participating universities may apply to participate in the video course. Only students working with Mentors (as
supervisors or committee members) are eligible to participate in the national
meetings or receive stipend awards. Normally, these students will be
enrolled in programs or post-doctoral training experiences associated with
Mentors’ academic departments or research groups. We encourage students considering applying for graduate programs in Mentors’
departments, or seeking post-doctoral training, to contact any of the Mentors. Eligibility
