Welcome to the School of Public Health and Health Systems. The next several years will be both stimulating and challenging for you, as you explore our unique interdisciplinary approach to the study of health. Your program of study will draw upon the behavioural, biological, social, and health sciences to expand your understanding of contemporary problems in health promotion and disease prevention. Our staff and faculty are committed to assisting you as an undergraduate student towards success in your chosen field of study.
The School of Public Health and Health Systems originated as the Department of Health Studies in 1978, later merging to become Health Studies and Gerontology. Since that time our faculty have provided leadership both nationally and internationally in teaching and research, preparing many of today's current leaders in the field of health promotion and disease prevention, clinical medicine, informatics, gerontology, and many other fields.
Please take advantage of the versatility offered through our Minor, Options and Specializations. Employers have come to recognize our graduates both for their breadth of education and their specialized knowledge.
Also, during your time spent at the University of Waterloo, we encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities that are available to you. Participate in student clubs such as the Applied Health Sciences Undergraduate Members (AHSUM), the weCONNECTu@Waterloo program, the University of Waterloo International Health Development Assosciation (UWHIDA) or get involved with campus-wide events. Be a leader within your class.
We wish you every success!
