
Darla Fortune, PhD Candidate, Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies
Darla Fortune is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Waterloo. She was centrally involved in data collection and analysis for the “Uncertain Futures” project. Darla returned to graduate school after spending several years as Director of Recreation Therapy in a long term care facility. Her research interests include opportunities for community engagement and social inclusion for individuals living in institutional settings such as prisons and long term care facilities. The research from Darla’s MA degree has been published in a book titled, Examination of Quality of Work Life in a Health Care Setting (2008) available from Verlag. Her dissertation will examine social inclusion in the lives of federally sentenced women who are reintegrating into the community after their release from prison.
