When I was young and was introduced to teleivsed sports such as baseball
and football, I used to root for the team whose uniforms I liked best. My
father always told me that this is not the best criteria for choosing a
team to support. Had I listened more closely, I might have had a more
systematic way of picking my winning team.
I really don't know much about hockey and I don't watch so the "most aesthetically appealing uniforms" approach was out. Instead, I picked the guys with names that I couldn't pronounce. I thought that " Devils" and "Avalanche" were the coolest of the names of the teams in the playoffs. I did use some science in that if I couldn't pick between two guys on the basis of names, I used the inverse of the square root of the distance from their home town to home city of their team. I didn't have to use that a lot, thank goodness, I found the research involved and the calculations difficult. So that's the winning strategy and I want to thank Bryan and Terry for their organizational efforts. I never thought "winner of the hockey pool" would be something I could add to my list of accomplishments, but thanks to them... I have a new claim to fame. Cheers.
