The original UW shield was replaced in September 1997 after 30 years of service. As an alumnus of UW, I've always thought that the original UW shield was unique right down to the fact that the three obviously hand-drawn lions were different. Douglas Harder has written a history of the UW shield. It is at: http://www.ece.uwaterloo.ca/Undergrad/Academics/UW/#arms.

Since UW seems to have abandoned the lions, I thought I'd keep one of them "alive and well" by adopting it and displaying it on this web page. I invite to come back and you visit my lion frequently. To view a full-size of my lion, you can click on the image on the left.
