Rafting Oregon's McKenzie River!
I had some wonderful mentors early in my academic career. Ted Haskell and Joe Fridgen at Michigan State, John Crompton at Texas A&M, Carl Yoshioka at Iowa State, and Dennis Howard at the University of Oregon all come to mind. I've been fortunate to work with numerous outstanding students over the years. Sometimes we have a bit of fun away from campus. It's curious that doing research with interesting, well-read, and committed people can, at times, evoke similar feelings to those brought on by a good stretch of white water.
